Where to keep your Border
Collie when you go on trip or vacation
Not all dogs are the same, there are some
dogs who love going on different adventures and there are some
dogs that would rather stay at home. Whatever the case may be
for your Border Collie, you should get to know his or her
characteristics.
There are many places in which you can keep
your dog when you go on a trip or vacation. Your trip may allow
the pet to come with you. If this is the case, then there are a
few things you should remember. You need to know the laws of
the places you are going to. As an example, you now need a pet
passport to get into most countries, and failing this, with the
UK especially, there are strict quarantine rules and
regulations.
If you don’t choose to take your pet with
you, you could always put your Border Collie into boarding
kennels. First of all, you need to choose the best boarding
kennel for you, as there are so many to choose from. You could
try looking on the internet for kennels in your area, and by
doing this, you can also get reviews about the kennel.
Different boarding kennels generally have different services
and facilities, so I suggest you try and look for a boarding
kennel that would best suit your dogs characteristics and
needs. Ideally, you should visit the kennel to take a look
before you decide to leave your Border Collie there.
The Border Collie is an agile, hyperactive
dog and if you don’t fancy the idea of leaving your beloved pet
in a boarding kennel, you could think about leaving him or her
with a close friend or family member that the dog knows. The
advantages to this are that the Collie will be left in familiar
surroundings and won’t have to deal with getting to know a
person for the duration of your trip or vacation.
If you are set on taking your Border Collie
with you on your trip, you need to firstly take him or her to a
veterinarian clinic where they will check your pet over and
make sure he or she is traveling in good health. They can also
advise you on anything you may need to remember, or ways to
make your dog comfortable while you are traveling.
Your Border Collie should have a physical
examination two weeks prior to the trip or vacation and the vet
will be able to provide you with the correct documentation that
may be necessary for traveling in the US and also into other
countries. Bear in mind that you should ask for details of
exactly what your Border Collie and you, as an owner, will need
to do as soon as you make arrangements for your trip. That way
you won’t have any nasty surprises and find out there is
something you haven’t done correctly.
You also need to work out in advance how you
are planning to travel with your Border Collie and whether or
not you will need a leash etc. for the journey.
So, there you have it. The various options
you have for your Border Collie when you go on trip and
vacation. Whatever you do, please bear in mind that Border
Collies can become very destructive when lonely and confined,
so try, as much as you can, not to do that to him or her. It
will be very distressing for the dog, and you too when you
realize how much damage he has or could possibly do.
